The sky is falling! Unable to cope with the horrors of modern civilization and inexplicably pushed over the edge by a delayed reaction to the demise of Skylab, middle-aged Veronica commits suicide. Instead of arriving in heaven, she finds herself in the bardo, a kind of waiting room for the afterlife. Suddenly a woman in a sari tells her she must return to earth because there are still lessons to learn. She’s determined to stay put. Nicknamed Miss Witherspoon by her spiritual guide because of her “brown tweed aura”, she finds herself stuck in a cycle of reincarnation. A Philadelphia premiere by New Jersey native Christopher Durang, this dark farce takes us on a journey that suggests for sensitive souls in a world gone mad death is easy, the after-life is hard.
